Greenvironment receives strategic development contract from WELTEC BIOPOWER, the world market leader in the production of stainless steel biogas plants
- 1st installation of a microturbine plant in the field of biomethane upgrading
- Sales potential of up to six 800 kW microturbine plants with WELTEC BIOPOWER until 2012
- Long-term cooperation targeted

Berlin, 16th December 2010 – Greenvironment GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of Greenvironment plc, today received a strategic development contract for the integration of Greenvironment combined heat and power plants with microturbines in biomethane-upgrading plants of WELTEC BIOPOWER GmbH (www.weltec-biopower.com). Thereby microturbines will be used as process heat unit in the so called amine-gas-treating-process. The higher thermal efficiency of microturbines delivers a special advantage for the biomethane production and thus can significantly improve the overall economic efficiency.

WELTEC BIOPOWER GmbH designs and manufactures complete stainless steel biogas plants that assure high quality, durable and sustainable products over lifetime. In recent years the company has become the world market leader in this segment. WELTEC biogas plants are constructed in modular design ensuring individual and flexible solutions for small and large biogas cluster plants, gas treatment installations and also waste recovery sites. With now approximately 70 employees, WELTEC has realized over 200 installations across Europe (including Sweden, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Greece, Lithuania and Hungary) but also in the USA and Japan.

"With this order we want to ensure planning reliability for our upgrading plants. Our goal is to establish a long-term partnership with Greenvironment. We are convinced that the process heat supply for our biomethane upgrading-plants through microturbines will significantly improve the overall economics", says Robert Thorne, technical director of WELTEC BIOPOWER GmbH.

"This development contract offers us an excellent opportunity to break into the fast-growing market segment of biogas treatment. With WELTEC BIOPOWER we have a leading German company on our side to successfully install this application for the first time. We expect to receive the first orders for the 800 kW microturbine in 2011 and see further sales potential of up to six 800 kW microturbine systems in this new market segment until 2012 - with WELTEC alone", commented Radu Anghel, managing director of Greenvironment GmbH.

Mr Matti Malkamäki, CEO of Greenvironment plc, explains: "The market for biomethane plants is playing an increasingly greater role in the biogas market. Thanks to our superior technology and as a specialist of combined heat and power with microturbines, we can also offer a suitable solution for this lucrative market segment, thereby leveraging additional revenue potential."
