eXair seeks merger with Malaysian firm for Asia growth

US-BASED wireless mobile software maker eXair Communications Corp plans to merge with a local technology company over the next few months to expand its footprint in the Asian region.

The software maker, which is listed on both the Nasdaq OTC "Pink Sheet" and the Frankfurt Xetra market, is "looking" at around four to five Malaysian companies.

"We are currently at the tail-end of the evaluation process. The board of directors will decide which candidate to merge with, and we can expect a decision to be out within the next three to four weeks.

"In terms of funding, one of the options we are looking at is a share-swapping exercise. Of course, at the end of the day, it all depends on which company we merge with," eXair director and adviser Jean Claude Petter told Business Times, without revealing the companies.

Nevertheless, it will not be a surprise to market observers if the company decides to merge with Mesdaq-listed Green Packet Bhd or E-Gal Corp Sdn Bhd.

eXair works with Green Packet on software development. It has also given the rights to sell eXair brand software, based on Green Packet's platform, in Europe.

E-Gal, which is believed to be the first Malaysian partner, has been working with eXair since 2005.

"We need to establish a stronghold here in Malaysia. The infrastructure is good, politically stable for the past 50 years, and it is also a springboard to other countries around the region," Petter said.
