Carl Data Customer Wins Award in Emerging $20m Public Health Notification Market

August 28, 2018 -Vancouver, British Columbia - Carl Data Solutions Inc. (CSE:CRL, FSE:7C5, OTC:CDTAF) (“Carl Data” or the “Company”), long-time customer, The City of Elkhart, was recognized by the Indiana Water Environment Association (IWEA) with the 2018 Collection Systems Large Facility Award (https://goo.gl/UScbYq). One of the tools that helped them win was a public notification system aimed at alerting residents to Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs), developed by Carl Data subsidiary FlowWorks Inc. Recent EPA regulations and health concerns have created an emerging USD $20 million market opportunity for similar CSO/public health notification systems.

“We’ve worked with The City of Elkhart for years and recognize the city as very proactive in their approach to managing the collection system. We were not surprised to see the city taking the lead on this initiative,” commented Kevin Marsh, Carl Data VP of Business Development. “We are currently talking with over a dozen other municipalities in need of similar tools. Continued focus on public health and regulation of sewage in hundreds of communities across the country have created a CSO public notification market easily worth USD $20 million in the US alone, with similar market potential in Canada and the EU.”

Earlier this year, the EPA made it a requirement (https://goo.gl/dSsurx) that all Great Lakes Basin municipalities have a CSO public notification system. The timely notice of CSO events may allow the public to reduce their potential exposure to pathogens associated with human sewage, which can cause a wide variety of health effects, including gastrointestinal, skin, ear, respiratory, eye, neurologic and wound infections.

“I am proud to see Elkhart leading the way in this important public safety and quality of life issue,” said Elkhart Mayor Tim Neese. I want to commend our team at Public Works and Utilities for their pro-active approach to service and encourage them to keep up the great work.”

Elkhart is the first Great Lakes Basin community to provide a user-friendly, web-based map to notify the public where to take caution when engaging in recreational activity in local rivers and creeks, during and after a rainfall or snowmelt event. The City’s website can also inform the public if a CSO has occurred in the past seven days.
