Herisau, June 1st, 2022: After years of bobbing around below the US$30 per pound mark, the price of uranium has shot up in recent months, hitting a temporary high of US$63.88 at the beginning of April. This will not be the end of the line, however, as the renaissance of nuclear energy, which requires uranium as fuel, has only just begun. In total, an annual supply deficit of between 40 and 60 million pounds has been created over the past 5 years. This means that in 2021, for example, about 60 million fewer pounds of U3O8 were produced than were demanded at the same time.
