West Australian Metals Ltd.: Studies identify Uraninite in Phillipus Zone Marenica Uranium Project – Namibia

West Australian Metals Ltd (WME) is very pleased to announce that recent mineralogical studies have identified uraninite as the dominant uranium mineral in alaskitic rocks which host the Phillipus Zone uranium discovery at its Marenica Project, Namibia. Uraninite is also the principal uranium mineral at the Rossing Uranium Mine (also hosted by alaskitic rocks) 60 km south of Marenica.

The mineral studies were undertaken following the successful initial drill testing of the 1500 - 2000 metre long Phillipus Zone in May 2008 (refer to ASX announcements 30 May 2008 and 26 June 2008 which can be found at www.wametals.com.au).

The significance of the identification of uraninite can be summarised as follows;

• Uraninite is a uranium oxide mineral which by weight contains 88% uranium, the highest of any uranium bearing mineral.
• Uraninite, following liberation from its host rock, is easily treatable to produce a saleable uranium product – that is, uraninite is a non-refractory mineral.
• The occurrence of uraninite significantly enhances the opportunity for further discoveries of this type within the 700 sq km Marenica licence area where other alaskite bodies have been mapped by WME geologists.
• As far as WME is aware, the Phillipus Zone is the first uraninite bearing alaskite discovery in this sector of the Damara geological province in Namibia.

The mineralogical studies, involving QEMSCAN (particle mineralogical analysis) and SMS (specific mineral search), were conducted by AMMTEC a leading metallurgical laboratory in Perth, Western Australia. Four representative samples of alaskite from the initial RC drill testing of the Phillipus Zone were selected for study. These studies showed that;

• All samples reported the presence of uranium minerals.
• The majority (averaging 92%) of the uranium measured in all samples is in uraninite while coffinite (a uranium silicate) represents the remaining source of the uranium.

The company is very encouraged by the results of these initial studies and in particular the identification of uraninite as the dominant uranium mineral.

As previously reported to the ASX on the 8 July 2008, a follow-up drill programme is now in progress to further test the Phillipus Zone along its strike length and to a vertical depth of at least 200 metres. Further results are expected to be announced shortly.
